Trees.
Our land is beautiful but in reality it is a pasture. While there is a nice group of trees along the creek, there are none near the house. This blog is so I can keep track of what we've done and serves as a living journal of how we turned our pasture into a place. In the fall, we planted a Chestnut Crabapple tree on the north end of the front yard. Behind it are tiny little Black Hills Spruce trees I planted last spring. To the north of the chicken coop are a couple lilacs and chokecherry bushes.
This summer is the year of trees. Right now the plan is to add lilacs, apple trees, plums and Canadian Red Chokecherry trees along the barbed wire fence. I know eventually there will be more houses and buildings built up around us. Trees are our ticket to our cocoon. I'll order from the conservation district, build some berms or mounds I think and task the kids with watering all summer.
