Blizzard of '22

Our first true big blizzard since moving to the country was bitterly cold with terrible winds.  We actually didn't get much snow the first few days but then the wind hit.  It was intense.  The sheep, goats and Patches about hit their max by the time it was over.  We shoveled them out of the sheep shed twice.

The calm between the storms..how many animals can you cram in a tiny sheep shed?  A lot....especially if they learn to get along!  Because they had to.  It was that or stand out in the wind.

Part 2 really was nasty.  Wind chills were around -55 degrees with the wind chill.

The poor chickens.  One hen's comb completely frozen off turning black and I think squirting blood all over the coop.  Thank goodness I built a new coop this fall as the old one was completely snowed in to the roof.  I did turn on two heat lamps, added a used billboard tarp to the front and kept adding a lot of bedding. They made it but barely.  True love shovels in to the chickens to glance over the straw bales to see if they are still alive....

The pallets on the left is my garden.  The black spot in the center is the last half of the new chicken coop.  It'd about 5 feet tall.  The old chicken coop is behind the snow drift.  Thankfully all 7 chickens survived because this is what eggs cost at the grocery store on 12/22/22:
